This is a massively exciting moment for us and we hope that you will all share our excitement as we move house, and bring the building back – it’s been sitting empty for a while, so we’ll need all the help we can get!
I appreciate lots of you will have lots of questions – how, where and when you can help, what happens with classes, shows etc, how the building will run and probably lots we haven’t thought about yet. We’re putting together some Q+A’s so we can share more detail on our plans over the next few days, so please feel free to use our contact form to get in touch.
How can you help?
(or a risk assessment, a few litres of paint, a light, or a whole host of other things!)
As you can imagine, bringing the building back into full community use will come at a considerable expense – we would love everyone to feel a sense of ownership and belonging at The Cowane, so whether you’re able to donate a few litres of paint, sponsor a bin, or put a plaque on a theatre seat, there’s options for everyone, and any help is gratefully appreciated. To help with this we’ve set up a crowdfunder here: crowdfunder.co.uk/p/rctthecowane
As we move in to what is a particularly large building, we are keen to hear from any of our parents or supporters who may have knowledge or skills in the following areas:
- IT/Networking and Communications Infrastructure
- Risk Management and Safety Compliance - Legionella, Asbestos, Food Hygeine, HACCP etc.
- Fire & Security & Access Control Systems
- Lift Maintenance
We’ve seen from all your comments that lots of you have many memories of the Cowane. We’d like to have a display in the building of lots of days gone by – if you have anything you’d like to share (or even better, any photos in The Cowane) you can share them on facebook, or email them to us – info@thecowane.org
There is a LOT to do, over a very busy period for Rubber Chicken Theatre. We will be holding several ‘DIY SOS’ style days between now and opening, and would love your help. Coffee and cake provided! Although skills (painters, joiners, electrics etc.) are very welcome, there’s a whole host of things needing done that don’t require any particular skill set:
- Cleaning, hoovering etc
- Painting – lots of painting!
- Transport (we will be moving and clearing HQ and lots of things from our yard)
- Support / Set up – hanging costumes, sorting drapes etc
- Gardening / clearing
If you are able to help in any way, please complete the DIYSOS form and we’ll be in touch (just in case we have too many of you at the one time!)
We would like to share our excitement with all of you, and beyond as we grow. If you know of any groups looking to hire space on an hourly or weekly basis etc, or use the theatre space, or perhaps even looking for a permanent room to run a business. Or if you’re keen to volunteer on a more regular basis once we are in the building, just get in touch via the website.
