Aims
The principal aims of the course are to develop a range of skills associated with the triple disciplines of musical theatre. This includes developing a range of appropriate skills in voice, movement and acting and developing skills for presentation at audition.

Course Outline
The course is made up of three units:

• Acting through Song - Research and interpret the text of contrasting songs to help create and portray a character in the rehearsal process and final performance. Evaluating character development and final performances.
• Preparation for Audition - Research and understand the types of work available within a chosen sector of the performing arts industry and learn how to prepare for an audition and evaluate their own performance at an audition.
• Group Dance Performance - Accessing different choreographers and exploring the roles of both performer and choreographer in developing, rehearsing, performing and evaluating a group musical theatre piece.

Class Details
Classes will run to suit the numbers and availability of candidates enrolling, however it is likely to include:

• Mondays | 5.45pm - 7.30pm | Aug - May
• Sundays | 5.30pm - 6.30pm | Aug -  March
• Fortnightly 30 minute 1:1 coaching sessions (Arranged by appointment)
• Workshops with visiting tutors (As arranged)

It may not be necessary for students to attend all classes depending on individual progress. This will be discussed with students as the course progresses.

Assessment
Assessment is by performance and some written work. Units (and the overall award) are graded as pass or fail. It is anticipated that performance assessments will take place in front of an audience.

Award
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive the National Progression Award in Musical Theatre.

Course Outline

Preparation for Audition - Research and understand  the types of work available within a chosen sector of the performing arts industry and learn how to prepare for an audition and evaluate their own performance at an audition.

Drama: Acting Skills - This unit is designed to help candidates understand the overall acting process. Candidates will begiven the opportunity to develop and demonstrate acting skills through practical, imaginative and creative exploration. They will be introduced to the key acting skills through exploration of the self,  others and environments, using a range of exercises. Candidates will then be required to develop a character from either text or observation, exploring in some detail the depth of this character. The Unit provides candidates with opportunities to evaluate the acting process and their own individual strengths and areas for development.

NOTE: Those who already have the NPA Musical Theatre through RCT will not need to be assessed for the ‘Preparation for Audition’ Unit (as they already have this unit) although they may wish to complete the process for their own development as audition skills are very much an ongoing process.

• Sundays | 5.30pm - 6.30pm (Note: this session may not run, depending on the needs of the group, it will be confirmed with students after sign up)

Aims
This course is suitable for those who have a keen interest in technical theatre. The principal aims of the course are to develop a range of skills both practical and written associated with technical theatre, with the option to specialise in a particular area of interest.

Course Details
The course is made up of three units: two mandatory and one optional.

Mandatory Units

• Technical Theatre in Context - Provides an introduction to technical theatre and gives candidates the opportunity to explore technical theatre in the context of a live production.
• Theatrical Design - Provides the fundamental design skills necessary to combine effectively with any one of the optional units.

Optional Units

Students pick one from:

• Theatre Stage Lighting Operations
• Theatre Stage Sound Operations
• Creative Project (which can cover most aspects of theatrical production)

Class Details
Timings for the class will be based on availability of students and teaching / assessment staff, alongside the specific unit chosen. Times will be set to support our current productions, along with teaching time for the skills involved. Flexibility will be required to allow us to work with our industry specialists and assessors. Assessment
Assessment is by a mixture of ongoing presentation, practical assessments, alongside some written work and assessment. Units (and the course) are graded as pass / fail.

Award
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive the National Progression Award Technical Theatre in Practise.
