Take Part: Broadway Junior: Matilda Jr.

Our Broadway Junior productions are adapted versions of hit Broadway shows, designed specifically for younger voices.

Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Matilda Jr. features all of the songs you know and love including Naughty, When I Grow Up and of course, Revolting Children.

About Broadway Junior

Rehearsing once a week (Sunday afternoons) throughout the early spring, performers will take part in a four day run in March 2026. Registration is open to all those in P1 - S6, and there's no requirement to have preformed with RCT before.  Auditions are not required for roles in our ensemble.

Performers will be split across multiple (with parents / carers able to express a cast preference at the time of registration); each cast taking part in multiple performances (although they will rehearse together). Some older cast members may be asked to take part in all performances, depending on casting. As this is a Broadway Jr. production, all performers must be under the age of 19 at the time of performance - as such adult roles in the show will be played by teens.

By registering, all performers are automatically included in the ensemble: Broadway Jr productions always include plenty of stage time for chorus roles. and it is the best way to get involved in as many parts of the show as possible. Auditions take place for any principal roles and for minor speaking / singing roles. As always, no one has to audition but anyone can if they want to. Audition information including which parts are available will be given out at the first rehearsal. More information about our audition process can be found here.

New to Shows at Rubber Chicken Theatre?

Rehearsals are a vital part of performing and our experience shows when kids miss rehearsals it can be really detrimental to their confidence. As such, we would expect that barring illness or exceptional circumstances all cast are at all rehearsals. We'd ask that parents consider both their child's and family's plans during the rehearsal period before deciding whether their child can commit.

Important! A note from Pamela about the venue...

As many of you know, Dunblane Christian Fellowship (DCF) have decided that they won’t be able to host our shows beyond the end of this year and we've been working hard behind the scenes planning a way forward.

We’re in early talks about a very exciting new (and permanent!) home for RCT — and we expect this to be the venue for Matilda Jr. However, until contracts are signed and all the legal bits ironed out, we can't confirm this just now.

As soon as we have more information, we'll let you know.

How To Pay

There are three different ways to pay:

  • In full at registration - we accept all major credit / debit cards.
  • Over 3 - 4 monthly instalments - select the option at checkout (first payment is due at registration).
  • Pay nothing now, use the code RCTDEFER24 at checkout, and pay the balance by 14th Dec.

Cancellations and Refunds:  If you need to withdraw your child from the show for any reason, fees for Matilda Jr. can be refunded in full before the 14th December. After this point 50% of fees can be refunded until the 4th January.  After this we will have incurred significant costs relating their space, and won't be able to offer the space to another child, so the fee will not be refundable. If you have chosen to pay in instalments or deferred payment, any outstanding balance will become due at cancellation.

Theatre for all:  We strongly believe that cost should not be a barrier to participation and will always, where requested, offer fee reductions, or fully funded places.  If you would like to speak to us about cost, please use the code RCTDEFER24 at checkout. This will allow you to register your child now and then we'll get in touch to see how we can help.

As always, if you have any questions, just shout!
