Take Part: Dot & The Kangaroo Jr.

Pre Registration Info

The cast for Dot & The Kangaroo Jr. is now full. Please add your child to the waiting list here.

We're bringing an all new junior adaption to the stage next Spring: Dot & The Kangaroo Jr.

Based on the 1899 classic children's novel, Dot & the Kangaroo JR. will lead audiences on a beautiful journey into the world and spirit of Australia.

Young, rambunctious Dot longs for an adventure exploring everything the country has to offer. When she finds herself lost and afraid in the darkening Australian bush, Dot befriends a wise mother Kangaroo who enlists the help of Australia’s favourite bush creatures to help Dot find her way back home.

The music for Dot & The Kangaroo Jr. has been written by Daniel Mertzlufft, who many of our Junior Theatre Festival regulars will have worked with during their singing workshops. He was also the composer for Ratatouille - the TikTok musical.

A Note From Pamela

Although rehearsals for Dot & The Kangaroo Jr. don't start until January, we're opening registration now to avoid launching any shows over the Christmas period.

As ever, we strongly believe that cost should never be a barrier to participation. There are options to pay in instalments or defer payment until next year alongside part and fully funded places. Further details are below.

Taking Part

As Dot & The Kangaroo Jr is a Broadway Junior production, all performers  must be under the age of 19 at the time of performance. Depending on numbers, we'll run with two or three casts, who will all rehearse together at the same time. The casts will then take part three performances each. Some older performers may be asked to take part in all of the performances.

We'll rehearse weekly from 3.00pm - 6.00pm on Sundays from January until March. It is expected that performers, particularly those in principal parts, will attend all rehearsals. Please discuss this with your child before signing them up.

Auditions and Principal Parts

Everyone who signs up to one of our shows is automatically included in the show as part of the chorus. However, the opportunity always exists for those who want to, to audition for a principal part. In our Broadway Junior productions, these can include everything from main characters right down to solo lines in a song or scene.

Full information about auditions will be released after the first rehearsal, however in the meantime, we recommend reading our Auditions FAQ here.

Additional rehearsals may be added for those in principal parts, although this will be arranged on an as needed basis.

Fee

The fee for taking part in Dot & The Kangaroo Jr. is £125 per person which includes:

  • Supervised rehearsals each week alongside our professional production team.
  • Opportunity to audition (if your child wants to) for principal roles or smaller speaking/singing lines.
  • Personalised 'Dot & The Kangaroo' show t-shirt.
  • Dot & The Kangaroo script to keep.
  • Performances with full production lighting, sound, costumes, props, sfx etc. on our purpose built stage at DCF.
  • Full photo pack containing professional ‘in character’ digital portrait, and access to digital copies of on-stage production shots.

How to Pay

There are three different ways to pay:

  • In full at registration - we accept all major credit / debit cards.
  • Over 3 - 6 monthly instalments - select the option at checkout (first payment is due at registration).
  • Nothing now, pay the balance by 28th February - use the code RCTDEFER24 at checkout.

If for any reason, you need to withdraw your child from the show, we will refund payments in full for any cancellation before 5th January. After this we will have incurred significant cost in relation to your child's space and are unlikely to replace them so would not be able to refund any of the fee. If you have chosen to pay in instalments or deferred payment, any outstanding balance will become due at cancellation.

As always, we believe that cost should never be a barrier to participation - part and fully funded places are available. Just use the code RCTFUND at checkout then get in touch and we'll see how we can help.

As always, if you have any questions, just shout!
