Show in a Week 2022 – Shrek

Registration opens: 9am, Sun 6th Feb @ Victoria Halls, Dunblane
Rehearsal Dates: 1st - 5th August
Performance Dates: 5th and 6th August

Open to all those currently in P1 – S6

Show in a Week is back, bigger, bolder, brighter and greener than ever before! After 2 years without a ‘‘normal’’ show in a week we will once again be performing on the main stage at the MacRobert. Based on the hugely popular film version, filled with amazing stage spectacle and unforgettable songs, Shrek is an amazing show with lots of scope for all our cast from the tiniest through to our teens and beyond.

Previous Show in a Week productions at the Macrobert have included Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Click on the links to see photos from them!

About the Week
Children will rehearse 10am – 5pm, Mon – Fri (some principals parts may be invited back to additional rehearsals
in the evenings) and perform in 3 performances of the full show on the Fri/Sat at the MacRobert. At the moment,we are hoping to rehearse Mon – Wed in Dunblane (venue tbc) then move to the MacRobert Thu – Sat, however given the complexities of arranging such a large scale show, that may change slightly. Full details will be confirmed asap to those registered. Once registered there is no requirement to audition – everyone will play a full part in the show, however for those wishing to audition for solo roles etc, audition info will be given out at registration.

As ever with Show in a Week the cast will be a mixture of our experienced professional adults, teens, and young people. The experience of being part of such a large, varied and supportive team is something that is pretty unique and special to Show in a Week.

As part of our licensing requirements, children must have completed P1 in order to be able to register for Show in a Week.

Fee
The fee for Show in a Week has remained the same for several years, however due to the increased costs of per
forming at the MacRobert and the increase in costs across all the theatrical suppliers we use, this year the cost will increase to £150. This includes:

  • Full time supervised training in music, dance and performance during the times above.
  • Participation in complete performances with lights, makeup, band etc.
  • Personalised ‘Shrek’ t-shirt
  • Full digital photo pack containing individual professional promo photo and all rehearsal / on stage shots.
  • An A3 souvenir poster showing the entire cast.

For those who have more than one child taking part, subsequent siblings will be charged at a reduced rate of £130.

Photos
We have recently updated our policy on photo consent for shows. This can be found at

Cost
As ever, we strongly believe that cost should not be a barrier to participation and will always, where needed offer
payment in instalments, fee reductions, or fully funded places. If you would like to take advantage of this please do speak to us BEFORE registration as this will help speed up the process on the day. Anyone offered funded places or payment arrangements must still attend registration on the day to secure their space.

If you need to withdraw from the show for any reason fees for Shrek can be refunded before the 1st of July.

How to Register
Registration will take place at The Victoria Halls, Dunblane, at 9am on Sunday the 6th February.

We can take cash, cheque or card (Although card is absolutely fine, if you can pay by cash or cheque where possible it will speed up the process slightly – cheques can be made payable to Rubber Chicken Theatre).

When registration opens, we will issue numbered tickets to those in the queue corresponding to the number of children you are registering. This means those who are not successful in getting a place do not have to wait longer than is necessary. Please be aware that registration will not open before 9am, even if the queue is full: if you arrive earlier than this (which we expect lots of you will) you may have to wait outside. We’ll try to facilitate an indoor queue as soon as possible, but we do not have access to the hall before 8am so please bear this in mind when deciding when to queue (in other words, if you’re keen, wrap up warm!).

Having consulted and debated endless ways of managing registration (including online) over the last 17 years we have decided that an ‘in person’ first come first served queue remains the fairest way to allocate places. We will do our best to make this as painless and quickly as possible, but we do ask for your patience. We’ll have tea and coffee on the go as quickly as we can!

Registering other Households
One person may register up to three separate households (including their own). If registering another household,
please ensure you have the full details of the children registering otherwise we will not be able to take registration for them. Details that are required are included at the end of this page.

If you are Unable to Make Registration
We suggest asking someone else attending to register on your behalf. While we fully appreciate no time/date will
ever be possible for everyone, unfortunately due to the numbers involved, in order to make the process fair and transparent we are unable to take registrations before Sunday the 6th.

If you are unsuccessful in getting a place, we will add your name to the waiting list - there is ALWAYS movement on the waiting list for Show in a Week and we will do our best to allow as many as possible to participate.

For those interested in backstage roles at Show in a Week:
We are not yet in the position to confirm how many (or if) backstage roles will be available for Shrek. We are
working with both the Macrobert and the RCT Production Team to identify the technical needs for the show and would hope to be able to confirm this by the end of the March.

If you’d like your child(ren) to be considered for a backstage role please head to https://bit.ly/shrekbackstage to register your child’s interest, this is open now. We will then contact you in April to let you know if a space is available and how to register.

To avoid confusion, please only add children whose preferred choice is to join the back-
stage crew. If your child prefers to be on stage but does not get a place at registration on 6th Feb, there will be a
backstage option available to select on the waiting list. Please be aware that only those heading into S1 or above will be considered for a backstage role.
