Following the success of Seussical Jr and Frozen Jr, we're bringing our next Broadway Junior production of Doctor Dolittle Jr to the stage in Spring 2024.
The classic tale of kindness to animals trots, crawls and flies onto the stage in Doctor Dolittle Jr. All of the characters we've come to love through the stories of Hugh Lofting and the magical movie musical are given new life in the stage version.
The musical tells the classic tale of a wacky, but kind, doctor who can talk to animals, taking the audience on a journey from the small English village of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh to the far corners of the world.
Taking Part
Registration is open to everyone in P1 upwards however all participants must be under the age of 19 at performance dates. There's no requirement to have performed with RCT before and auditions are not required for ensemble roles.
Rehearsing once a week on Sunday afternoons throughout January and February (with additional rehearsals for the bigger principal roles) , performers will take part in shows in the first week of March at Dunblane Christian Fellowship, which is where we also rehearse. Performers will be split across three casts (parents / carers will be able to express a cast preference at the time of registration); with each cast taking part in three performances (although they will rehearse together). Some older cast members may be asked to take part in all performances, depending on casting. Due to the licensing restrictions, the RCT adults will not perform in this production but will be on hand throughout all rehearsals and shows.
By registering, all performers are automatically included in the ensemble: Auditions take place for any principal roles and for minor speaking / singing roles. As always, no one has to audition but anyone can if they want to. Audition information including which parts are available will be given out at the first rehearsal. More information about our audition process can be found here.
Junior Theatre Festival
Those who take part in Doctor Dolittle Jr. will also have the option to sign up for the trip to the Junior Theatre Festival in May 2024.
Taking place at the ICC in Birmingham, the Junior Theatre Festival brings together thousands of young performers from across Europe to celebrate all things musical theatre.
As part of the event, we will perform an extract of Doctor Dolittle Jr. in front of other groups and a panel of theatre professionals as well as taking part dancing, singing and acting workshops and enjoy performances from current West End performers. More information about the Junior Theatre Festival will be released later in the year, but for a taste of what to expect, check out our JTF playlist on YouTube here.
